Carlisle Station
Opened : 1893 (siding)
1912 (Station)
Original Name : Haydon’s Siding (1893 -1912),
Mint Street Station (1912), East Victoria Park (1912 -1919), Carlisle Station
(1919 - to the present)
Station History : In 1893 a
siding was opened up shortly after the completion of the railway line from
East Perth to Pinjarra, at the site of Carlisle Station, it was referred
to as Haydon’s Siding, due to the name of a machinery company that operated
nearby and used the siding at that site. It wasn’t until 1912 that a station
platform was actually built here to service the local population .When the
Station was first built for a short time it was referred to as Mint Street
Station, but that was changed to East Victoria Park Station, which then in
turn was renamed to Carlisle Station in 1919.
In 2004, the station was pretty much rebuilt, from the ground
up, a new steel shelter has been constructed (pictured above), compared to
the old brick shelter
(pictured, two photos below), the old wooden edging on the old platform has
been removed and in it's place is aluminum edging. The old bitumen platform
surface, which is common place at so many of the suburban stations, has been
replaced with paving bricks, new lights have been installed and also a close
circut
security camera system has been installed at the station. It also looks like
the lengh of the platform has been shortened, but I'm not sure about that.
All in all the new station is a much better sight than the
previous station.
