Opened : 1959
Original
Name : Lathlain Station
Station History : The station at Lathlain, was built
after the opening of the Lathlain Park football ground, nearby to the
station and it was
built to serve football
followers making their way too and from the ground and also for the
local residents.
However, with the re-building
of Victoria Park Station, Lathlain Station closed down for good,
because Victoria Park Station, was reposistioned
closer to Lathlain, causing Lathlain to become redundant.
This has come about, due to only small numbers of people using Lathlain
Station and also because
there is a push at the moment to close down lightly
used stations that are close by to heavily used stations, to improve
transit times. The new
Victoria Park Station, when complete will take on the role of
nearest stopping point for Lathlain Park football goers travelling by
train to the games there.
