Station History : Ashfield was built in 1954 along with a
few other stations along the metro passenger lines to make the rail service
more convenient.
Before the station was built, a signal box occupied the site of the station,
the signal box was called Cresco and was used from 1930 to 1954, when
the station was built, the signal box at the station stayed in use at Ashfield
until 1964 when it was closed.
