St Mary's Station (TAS)
St
Mary's Station, 8th of March 2007
St Mary's Station was located at the end
of the Fingal Valley Line, just on the western outskirts of St Mary's
townsite. Today the Station is a cafe and in very good
condition compared to Fingal Station, located about 20kms west, where
the line now terminates. The track embankment is clearly visable the
whole way from Fingal
to St Mary's and even the old St Mary's Water Tower still stands in the
former yard. The depression in the ground where the turntable once was,
is also evident and
I believe the turntable from this station, was removed and relocated on
the rebuilt, West Coast Wilderness Railway, between Queenstown and
Strahan.
