Opened :
1993? Location :
Between Joondalup and Clarkson on the Northern Suburbs Railway.
Currambine
is the second last station on the Joondalup Suburban Passenger Line from
Perth and was opened shortly after the completion
of the line from Perth to Joondalup. Originally the station was located closer
to the beach, however it was discovered it was in the way of the
future Mitchell Freeway extensions, so a new station was constructed
about 50 metres to the east of the original station.
Construction of the second Currambine station, started in early 2002 and
it wasn't untill the 4th of October 2004 that the new station was
opened along with the new extension to the Northern Suburbs railway to Clarkson.
At the same time of opening of the new station the
old station was closed and the tracks leading to the station were removed.
The old Station also included a EMU cleaning depot, which was located at
the northern end of the station, it was here that at nights a portion
of the Perth EMU fleet would be stabled and cleaned.
With the extension to Clarkson and the opening of a new purpose built EMU
railcar depot further north of Clarkson at Nowergup, this has
made the Currambine cleaning depot redundant.
Both stations are of a simular design, except the new station is slightly
longer to accommodate, 6 car EMU's and also the passenger shelter
on the station is also a bit bigger.
