Kellerberrin Kellerberrin Station, 27th of January 2005
Opened :
c1893 Original Name : Kellerberrin
Station History :
Kellerberrin
is situated along the Eastern Goldfields Railway, between Northam and
Merredin.
Kellerberrin's original station was
constructed of wood and was very simular to Cunderdin's and Tammin's
Station. However, in the mid 1960's with the opening of the standard
gauge (SG)
line extension from Kalgoorlie to Perth, this sounded the death of
these stations, also including Meckering. New red brick station
buildings were
constructed along the line, these new stations are very boring looking,
they have no character and it seems that all of them were built on the
outskirts of
towns. Kellerberrin's probably being the closest to the town centre, I
guess WAGR, was trying to take advantage of the CBH, sidings at every
town, because
that's where they always seem to be. In 1995, the towns of Kellerberrin
and Tammin, constructed new stations, each in the town centre, both the
same
design as the station in the photo above, so today, instead of the
prospector stopping on the edge of town or even 1km from town, it stops
at these new stations.
