Built : 1881/82
Original Name : Butlers Siding, was renamed to Claremont
in 1882/83.
Station History : Claremont Station was one of the original
Stations built along the Eastern Railway from Fremantle to Guildford. The
Station was
originally used as a passing point for trains between Perth And Fremantle,
as the Eastern Railway was originally only a single line, up until 1896
when the
line was duplicated. The Station became the destination station for
the Royal Agriculture Show in 1905, until Showground Station was built
between
Claremont and Loch Street Stations. With the Royal Show being moved
from Guildford to Claremont Show Grounds (as it later became know)
this caused the Station to be expanded with 3 platforms. The Station
was one of the more elegant stations along the Eastern Railways. There
was also
a small railway work shop and sidings at Claremont Station. Today the
original Station still stands in it’s original position, it is one of the
only few left original
Stations, nearly everything left over from the Stations hay day are
still there and they have been restored to there former glory (station
building, island platform
with passenger shelter, signal box, old foot bridge and old station
workshops shed).
