Built : 1954
Original Name : Loch Street
Station Location : 4m 77c, 7.8kms from Perth
Station Facts : Loch Street Station was built during
the station expansion of the mid 1950's by WAGR on it's suburban lines,
Loch Street was built the
same time as the original
showgrounds station and both stations were only a mere 100 to 150
metres apart. Loch Street Stations platform, is only 2
E.M.U carriages long, making it
an undesirable station to stop at when 4 carriage suburban passenger
trains run during weekends. This has caused
Loch Street to only recieve
limited services during week nights and weekends (2 carraige trains
only), Grant Street Station is also in the same position
as it is also only serviceable
by 2 carriage E.M.U's.
There are plans in the future
to cut back on stations on the old suburban lines, to decrease the
transit times between places such as Armadale and Perth
and Fremantle and Perth and
make public transport more attractive, already on the Armadale line,
Lathlain Station has been closed down to make
way for a new Victoria Park
Station, which will in turn bring about the
closure of the old Victoria Park Station, on the Fremantle line, the
stations
that may
be closed down in the future
are, Grant Street, Loch Street and maybe Karrakatta with a new station
being built between Karrakatta and Loch Street.
