Built : 1886
Original Name : Beverley
Station Facts : The town of Beverley was settled in
1830 and was one of the original inland settlements in Western
Australia, the town got it's name
from the town of Beverley in
Yorkshire, England, as many of the explorers who explored in this area
prior to settlement were from Yorkshire.
The Station however wasn't
built until 1886, when the Eastern Railways was extened from York to
Beverley, 3 years later Beverley was linked by
the privately owned GSR Line to
Albany, Beverley became an important stop along the line from Perth to
Albany, as it was were the Government and
Private Railways connected and
privately owned loco's pulled the trains
to Albany and Government owned loco's pulled trains to Perth, York,
Northam
or Toodyay (both Toodyay and
Northam, openned in 1888).
Beverley Station is part of a
group of 4 stations, which are built from
stone and constructed in the 1880's, these other stations share
simularities,
the other
stations are Claremont, York
and Walkaway, the design of these stations
are known as a Victoria Tudor style, it's a shame more of these stations
weren't built around WA.
