Brookton
Station, 26th of April 2005
Built :
June 1889
Original Name : Seabrook
(1889 - ?), Brookton (? - present)
Station History : Brookton
was opened in 1889, as a siding, called Seabrook, (named after the
first settler in the area, John Seabrook), however confusion over the
name with another siding
called Seabrook,
situated near Northam, caused for a name change to Brookton. Brookton
Station was once a junction along the Great Southern Railway,
as it had a branch line leading off
to Corrigin, which passed
through Aldersyde. The last remains of this branchline are found south
of the Station yard, where the CBH silo's siding branches off to the
east. At the silo there is a
run around track and a loading track, with the run around track
continuing on east, past the silo's facilities and crossing a road,
then running through a paddock for another few hundred metres before
coming to an end, it's this section of line, which used to continue on
through to Corrgin.
Today the station's building is used as an Art Gallery for local
Artists.
