Narrogin Station

Narrogin Station, 9th of Jan 2003
Opened : 1889
Original Name : Narrogin
Station History : Again Narrogin Station is one the original stops on the GSR line, as it was opened in 1889, however Narrogin didn't start to grow until
proposed railway lines to Collie and Wickepin were announced in the time from 1905 to 1907. In 1906 work commenced on the current Narrogin Station
and a year later the Narrogin to Colllie line opened. By 1909 the Narrogin to Wickepin line opened, eventually Narrogin was connected by 6 railway lines
leading into the town, coming from places such as York, Wagin, Collie, Wickepin, Kulin and Boddington. For the next 60 years it was business as usual around
Narrogin, as it was one of the main depots along the GSR, it's yard was always busy as well as the Loco depot.

In 1970, Railway employee’s in the town numbered 280, however by 1995, there was only less then a dozen workers left, Narrogin as well as other
railway towns around the country side in WA has been hit by the downsizing of Westrail by the Government of WA. Today Narrogin is literally a shell of
what it once was, with it's rail yard gone and turned into a bypass road through the town, the station is in disrepair and only has track along one side of it's
island platform,
the loco depot has been closed, and the only traffic that passes through the station these days are bulk wheat train heading to Kwinana.
