Opened :1889
Original Name : Popanyinning
Station History : Popanyinning Station was
originally a siding and opened along with the GSR Line in 1889, it
wasn't until shortly after 1896
when the WA Government bought
the privately owned GSR line, that residential and commercial lots were
allocated for sale around the siding
and by 1904 the town of
Popanyinning was gazetted, this was probably around the time that the
station building was constructed, I say this
because the design of station
located at Popanyinning is the same as Darkan, Bowelling and Wickepin
and those towns had their station building
constructed around 1905 to 1907.
Passenger services stopped
along the GSR line and to Popanyinning in 1978, the station at
Popanyinning is unused and the only traffic this station
sees these days are the
occasional bulk grain trains.
