Station History :Gingin Station, was one of the first Stations to open up along the Midland Railway Line from Midland Junction to Walkaway, near Geraldton,
In fact Gingin Station open for business, along time before the line was completed from Geraldton to Midland. Midland Railways classed Gingin as a 1st class
station, it was styled like a English Brick Station with masters quarters. Throughout Gingin Stations life as a stopping place for passenger trains travelling to
and from Geraldton and Perth, there was always a station master, until the position was withdrawn on the 30th of April 1971. From the time the Station
opened up until the 13th of May 1932, Gingin was also a refreshment stop, once it closed the refreshment stand was moved to Muchea Station, which is
situated between Gingin and Midland Junction. In the days of Steam loco’s water had to be pumped up the hill from Gingin Brook and it was stored in two
water tanks, one at each end of the station. By the 30th of March 1971, Westrail had removed Gingin Station from it’s books as a Staff Station and
eventually on the 23rd of May 1985, Gingin Station was eliminated as a passenger stopping place. Today the original station still stands and has been
completely restored to it’s former glory, this is because the Station Buildings have be classified by the National Trust and placed on the Register of the
National Estate. These days the only trains that make their way through the station are the occasional Hotham Valley tour train on it’s way to Geraldton
and the coal trains from collie to Geraldton.
