Grant Street Station
Grant Street Station
(Grant Street Station, 16th of December 2002)
Built :1954
Original Name : Grant Street
Station History : Grant Street was built in 1954 along with a few other stations around Perth at that time, they were built to make
the railway more convenient, pretty much the theory that 'more stops equals, there’s a station around the corner from you', however
with the change of thinking in the 1990's from the WA Government, in that less stations are required along the 3 old lines, to improve
transit times, to make the trains an attractive option over private cars for travelling to work, Stations such as Grant Street, Loch Street,
Karrakatta, Lathlain and Success Hill have entered a time of uncertain futures. Grant Street has this problem because it is so closely situated
to Swanbourne Station and a little futher away in the other direction is Cottesloe, therefore these short distances could easily be made up by
passengers either walking to one of the other two stations, to catch trains. The second problem is that, even with Grant Street open, not many
passengers use this station, in comparison to Cottesloe and Swanbourne, also causing the station to look unattractive in the future. Oh and another
problem for Grant Street is that it is only long enough for two EMU carriages to stop at it, causing weekend trains with consist of 4 carriages to
have to pass throught without stopping. Currently Grant Street Station, is served by EMU's every 15 mins in each direction during the day on
week days, however at night times and weekends only 1 train stops here every hour.
