Built : 1881
Original Name : Guildford
Station History : Guildford Station, was at the end
of the original section of the Eastern Railway, which ran through Perth from
Fremantle. At first Guildford
Station was no more then just a shack, among paddocks, it wasn't until
the mid 1880's that the second Guildford Station was constructed, it was
a brick station
building, with a wooden platform, built on the site of the current stations
carpark. However, by 1898, the third station buildings were built, these
buildings lasted
till the 1960's until the main station and platform were demolished and
turned into a car park, such as the fate for many of the other suburban
stations around
Perth. Although the main building was demolished, the island platform
remained in service and is still there today, the shelter and platform is
the last remnants of
the 1898 station. Guildford Station's Signal Box also survives today,
but it's home is at the Railway Transport Museum in Bassendean.
