Classic Scenes of 2004, Part 2
B Set EMU 449, the
first of the B Set EMU's to arrive in Perth, sneaking into the Midland
Workshops late on the evening of the 6th of June 2004
(For those that were there, it would
be hard to forget that day, I arrived early in the morning around 6am,
in pitch black darkness waiting for
the railcar transfer from
Forrestfield Yard to Midland to take place. However it just never
seemed to happen, yet we all waited trackside, on a wet
and windy Winters day. Finally after 13 hours the Railcar showed up, being
hauled by K205, problem was it was now quite dark and it was a race
to find somewhere in Midland with enough light to take a reasonable photo and after a few
failed attempts, I snapped this pic of the Railcar being
reversed in to the Midland Workshops.)
NR56,
leads 3 other NR's and an AN class loco on a P23, Woodbridge Light
Engine Turn, through Midland, 18th of June 2004
(The first photo
taken with my Olympus Digital Camera, showed a lot of promise and that
camera didn't let me down, over the next year of use.)
NR12-NR57,
on an interstate freighter heading east through Midland, 3rd of July
2004
(It's hard not to
include this photo of NR12, pouring on the power as it heads through
Midland, after rounding the Woodbridge Triangle at 40kmph)
AB1534,
on the Chandala Coal, heading east through Midland, on the 30th of July
2004
(This is one train
I miss seeing, the Chandala Coal... it spiced up railfanning at Midland
and provided locals with a short chase up the rarely
used MR line.
I think I also recall seeing an S class on the Chandala Coal once, it
was the only time I have seen an S class north of Forrestfield.)
W903, on the Wednesday Steam Ranger,
arriving into Dwellingup Yard, on the 4th of August 2004
(Just a classic shot of the Steam Ranger climbing the grades into
Dwellingup, a scene which is rarely seen
anywhere else in Western Australia these days.)
W903,
with a long consist, heads back down Dwellingup Line on the 4th of
August 2004
(When HVTR still
did main line workings, once a year they would do a run out to Dowerin,
for the Dowerin Field Days Accommodation Train,
this required the
sleeping cars, which are stored up at Dwellingup to be brought down on
one of the Steam Ranger Services, to Pinjarra, to
be readied for
service on the Dowerin Train. This photo above shows one such movement,
about half way from Dwellingup to Pinjarra.)
CLP17,
on a Recorder Train, heading north through Hazelmare, on the 14th of
August 2004
(Another Recorder
Train photo, but for obvious reasons, this photo is a classic because
it involves the
rarely seen CLP
class loco's in Western Australia.)
A1511,
running light engine through Midland, heading east, on the 24th of
August 2004
(Shortly after
returning to mainline services, A1511, still in Westrail colours goes
for a trial run, before it is to be repainted in a
modified ARG
colour scheme and renumbered to 1202.)
B Set EMU 451, on a
test run up and down the Midland Suburban Line, at Midland Terminal, on
the 25th of August 2004
(I only got this pic due to a tip off
from a local Railfan, so thanks to that person, you know who you are!..
anyways, this
is one of two times I know that a B
set has run under it's own power on the Midland Line to Midland
Terminal.)
