Classic Scenes of 2004
D1562-A1513, on a combined Caustic and
Alumina train climbing the grade through Roelands heading north, 6th of
January 2004
(I was quite lucky to get this photo, I had been for a drive up to
Collie to get photos of the construction of the Collie Station and Loco
and Carriage Shed.
On my way back to Perth from Collie, I stopped at Roelands to get a pic
of the Roelands Sign in the park by the Railway Line. I was walking
back to my
car when i thought i heard a train horn in the distance, at first i
thought i was just hearing things... but then i'm sure i could hear the
rumble of a train coming
towards me from the direction of Bunbury. So i took up position and a
few seconds later this is the photo i took of the passing train, at the
time it was the
first time I had photographed the D class and possibly A1513. I chased
the train to Brunswick Junction and took a couple more pics before I
headed back home.)
R1902, on Ballast Duties at Bindi Bindi,
on the Miling Branch Line, 10th of January 2004
(I knew the R class was working on the Miling Branch, doing Ballasting,
so one Sunday I took a drive up through Toodyay, Bolgart and eventually
Bindi Bindi,
where I found the R class stabled with it's consist. At the time I got
there, the train crew were just preparing for the rest of the days work
and I only managed
to get it shunting around the yard at Bindi Bindi, because it was going
to be a while before they departed. Even though I still like this shot.)
P2017-P2008, on the
Iron ore Train, departing the Port of Geraldton, on the former northern
route around Geraldton to Narngulu, 15th of February 2004
(I had been to Geraldton exactly 1
year before, same dates at acutally, but while I was there the first
time, I had no luck in getting any trains, so this time
around I was determind to get some and
as soon as I arrived in Gero I got this train at the Port. I met up
with one of the local Railfans and we chased this train
out to Narngulu and picked up a loaded
Grain and chased that back into Geraldton's City centre.)
P2007, on a loaded Grain train, running
along the foreshore on the former northern route around Geraldton, 15th
of February 2004.
(This is the only photo I have of a train running along the old
foreshore line into Geraldton. For the record, this was the last
section of line from the first
Government Railway in Western Australia. Opened in 1879, the line ran
from Geraldton to Northampton, via Bluff Point. At the time of this
photo being
taken, just the section from Bluff Point to Geraldton was left, as the
rest of it to Northampton had been closed in the 1950's.)
L268, on the Recorder Train, passing
through Midland, heading east, on
the 1st of March 2004
(Always an occassion to be out and about, the Recorder Trains, provide
an opertunity to get some unusual runnings, usually consisting
of interstate rollingstock and sometimes interstate locomotives,
however on this time it was a Yellow L Class. This is still a unusual
running
because it's not often we see L classes pulling Passenger
(rollingstock) Trains these days.)
ALF25-CLF5, on a Standard Gauge Grain
Train, roaring through Kewdale,
heading north, 1st of March 2004
(This was a usual sight in 2004, as the ALF and CLF, were usually
paired together, however having said that, I saw the ALF and CLF many
times running
with other loco's.... anyways It's a classic scene now, it probably
wont ever be repeated in WA again.)
A1513-2505, on a
narrow gauge Grain, heading up through the Avon Valley
at the 64km peg, on the 14th of March 2004
(My Dad and I sat here for what seemed
like 2 hours and it probably
was.... before this train came roaring through and caught me by
surprise.)
C1703, at the lead of the Donnybrook
Apple Festival Special, about to run around it's consist at Kirup, 11th
of April 2004.
(One of the few trains I have photographed on the Former Picton to
Northcliffe Line. The Apple Festival Train, dropped all it's passengers
off at Donnybrook
Station and then ran empty down to Kirup, so C1703 could run around and
be ready for the trip back up to Perth later in the day)
DA1571-P2007,
on a narrow gauge grain train, heading east through Midland, 2nd of
June 2004
(This was a usual
site once, taken from the now removed footbridge at Midland Junction,
however today, the angle and paint
scheme seen
on these two loco's is a thing of the past.)
