Classic Scenes of 2004 (Page 3)
R1902,
running light engine into the Midland Workshops, 25th of August 2004
(My last photo of R1902, in it's modified Westrail colour scheme, just
before it dissappeared into the Workshops
to receive it's repaint into the 2 tone blue scheme, which is common
with the South Spur Locmotives.)
ZB2125, in it's new
colours, parked up outside the Workshops, 25th of August 2004
(A sitting duck
shot of ZB2125, but still worth it, as it shows the ZB, with out it's
classifications and numbers.)
XA1401,
on the Dowerin Field Days Accommodation Special, about to depart
Dowerin, 27th of August 2004.
(This
particular run of the XA, back to Perth was used to mark the 50th
anniversary of the introduction of the X class
locomotive
to the WAGR. HVTR, placed an old Westland Head board on the front of
the XA and it ran down the
Line,
through Goomalling and Northam, before heading to Midland. The route
through Dowerin, even though not the
original
routing of the Westland (which ran from Kalgoorlie to Perth, via
Merredin and Cunderdin), did near the end
of
it's run use the cross country line from Merredin to Northam via
Dowerin, due to contruction work taking place
on
the Eastern Goldfields Line, between Northam and Merredin, in readiness
for the new Standard Gauge connection.
So
in some ways it was a complete recreation, a ex WAGR, XA Class, all ex
WAGR wooden rolling stock, with
a
brake van and on a former route of the Westland.)
AB1531-2505, on a 758
Grain, heading south through Herne Hill, 15th of Sepetember 2004.
(A classic photo,
due to the setting of the photo and well I love getting trains with A's
or AB's leading.)
C1703, on a empty Rail
Train, heading south along the old MR Line, just south of Gingin, 22nd
of September 2004
(I raced up to
Gingin, straight after work, to get the C class on the rail train,
heading back to Midland, after a run up
the old MR Line to
the Geraldton District. I got some classic photos of the C, while
chasing it from Gingin to Bullsbrook
where the sun
faded and we gave up the chase. Anyways this would be one of my
favourites for obvious reasons.)
NA1874, on an empty
Ballast Train, heading through Midland, for the Flashbutt, 22nd of
October 2004
(Which was once a
common sight for a year or two in Perth, South Spur's NA on Ballast
duties around the Metro area
and even down the
South West Main, but now another thing of the past, as the NA, has been
repainted in the 2 tone blue
and has been
converted from Narrow Gauge to Standard Gauge and only appears in Perth
every now and then.)
Two Prospector Sets,
two on the left, the out bound Prospector and on the right, the
Avonlink Service, 22nd of October 2004
(A shot I had been
after for a while, never quite being in the right spot, but very happy
to get, due to this being the last days of the original
Prospector
Railcars, on the Prospector Service. The original\ Prospector Railcars
did continue for a while longer on the Avonlink run.)
S549 'Greenmount',
running light engine from the Flashbutt to Bassendean, tender first,
24th of October 2004
(A obvious reason
as to why I have included this photo in the list of Classic Shots of
2004, as this was the only
time S549 ran
under it's own steam on the main line and was one of the few times that
year, that any steam engine
saw the metro
area. The S class had been driven under it's own steam from the
Bassendean Museum to the
Midland Workshops,
by Volunteers from the HVTR, due to accreditation reason and displayed
at the Midland
Workshops Open
Day. In the afternoon the S was again steamed under it's own power back
to Bassedean.)
1907-P201?, on a Beacon
Line bound Grain Train, at Amery Station, 19th of November 2004
(A classic shot,
as it was the only time I chased the ex D1577 (1907), on a grain train
out into the Wheatbelt.
A thing of the
past now as 1907 has gone to South Australia, to work on the Eyre
Peninsula Narrow Gauge Network,
for G&W
Australia. Plus I don't have that Car anymore!.)
