Maylands Station
maylands
(Maylands Station, April 2002)
Built : 1896
Original Name :15 mile siding (From Fremantle), Falkirk (1897 - 1899)
Station History : The current Maylands station was built from ground up, less then 2 years ago. It has been designed to fit in with the old style of the
original Maylands Station building which is still standing to this day, (as you can see in this photo above). These days the original down platform to
midland is now an island platform servicing both Midland and Perth bound trains. Maylands Station these days is now only accessible by a pedestrian
underpass, as opposed to the footbridges that accompanied the station from it’s opening until 2000 when the new Station was completed.

The stations main use besides a passenger stop, was it’s signal boxes control of the local tracks, such as the main lines and the sidings to local industries
as well as the stations sidings.

The Signal Box, that accompanied the original station building, burnt down some years ago, so it’s quite lucky that the parcel’s office/booking office
didn’t burn down with it. These days Maylands is just a passenger stop along the suburban lines, same for most other stations, how ever Maylands remains
one of the busiest stations along the Midland line, as well as being one of the most dangerous Stations, this is why with the building of the new current
station a Railway Police post was built on the station, this is a trend that was started with the building of the Stations along the Joondalup Line, and is
now only just being added to the Older lines. There is almost a feeling of a return to the days of manned Stations, with almost permament security on the
main stations. Maylands is the first in the new design of Stations to be built in replacement of the aging old 50's, 60's and 70's designed stations in the suburbs.
