$5 Million was spent on upgrading the station, which pretty much saw the original station building destroyed, as the roof was removed,
much of the brickwork from the Perth end station building was smashed away to make a open shelter, rather then the old enclosed
station attendants block, which was attached by the roof that spanned the entire lenght of the station building.

The recontruction of Bassendean Station continues, 20th of November 2003 (left) and while the work was being carried
out, 2 make-shift platforms were constructed at the Midland end of Bassendean Station to allow normal services for
passengers using Bassendean Station, 4th of October 2003 (right).

When the new Bassendean Station was opened on the 31st of May 2004, such addition to the station were, a guards booth, new pedestrian
footbridge and a purpose built bus interchange, which was constructed in the position of where the car park used to be on the Broadway side
of the Station..

The old footbridge remained in place for around 3 weeks after the station opened, although it was closed to the public, due to the new footbridge
being opened for use. On the night of the 18th of June, the bridge was dismantled and later on, the section of original platform, where the old
footbridge was, was also dismantled.

The old footbridge which spanned the railway lines, station and Guildford Road, was pulled down to make way for the re-opening of Old Perth Road,
which for some 30 years had been closed to traffic from Guildford Road, as the footbridges access ramp blocked off the road. Now a set of lights has
been installed for the intersection of Old Perth Road and Guildford Road, also a pedestrian crossing has been provided at the set of lights

Once this work was carried out, it signalled the end of work on the upgrade of Bassendean Station, it was then opened official by the Minister for Transport.
