Opened : Jan 1898
Original Name : Colliefields (1898 - 1899)
Station Facts : In 1898 a railway line and station was constructed for the booming town of Collie, in the area called the Colliefields, this
name came about from the newly discovered coal fields, which were exploited as fuel for Western Australia's steam locomotive fleet.

Originally, the station at Collie was named Colliefields, because the name Collie, was already taken by a station, located at Roelands
on the South West main line. It was probably around 1899, when the Station, located at Roelands, was renamed to Roelands and
in turn, Colliefields Station was renamed to Collie Station.

West Collie Station was also opened in 1898, however, it was renamed to Allanson in 1916.

Collie was a large railway and mining town throughout the majority of the 20th centuary, it had a round house, turntable, many locomotive
sheds, a large marshalling yard, a station, with another engine shed, very large goods shed and goods platform, most of which is still there
today, excepted for the marshalling yard tracks, as now there are only a couple of passing loops and sidings within the old Collie west yard.

With the cessation of steam power in the WAGR fleet, Collie, became home for the last working steam locomotives (before they were sold
for scrap metal), just incase, extra motive power was needed for freight movements before enough diesels could fully take over the work
that was once carried out by steam locomotives.

Eventually by 1977 or 1978 (I think), Collie Station was demolished, since then, Collie's part in the rail scene of Western Australia has taken a
back seat, also adding to this situation was the closure of the Agricultural lines from Collie to Narrogin and Collie to Wagin (both via Bowelling).

Atleast one thing hasn't changed in Collie for over 100 years and that is the need for Collie Coal, which is still transported out of Collie via the
Lunenburg Valley Railway Line and railed to Kwinana.

A bit of good news for Collie, is the rebuilding and openning of the Collie Railway Station (2004), the station will be a replica of the
old Collie Station that was demolished in 1977.

The re-built Collie Station is up and running and houses the headquarters of the Collie Railway Station Group, (a local heritage and preservation
group).
