Wongan Hills Station, 29th of July 2004.

Wongan Hill Station is located on the Inland Line (Mullewa Line), which ran from Northam, via Goomailling and Morowa to Mullewa. Wongan Hills is situated between the former sidings of Kalguddering and Elphin.

The Inland Line was up until 1964 the only way for WAGR trains to travel between Perth and Geraldton, so for some 50 years it was a very important trunk line in the WAGR system, until the Government bought
out the privately owned Midland Railways Co, which ran a more direct railway line linking the outer Perth Suburb of Midland to Walkaway (just south of Geraldton), making the Inland Line less pivitol and
eventually in the 1990's the section of the line between Maya and McLevie was closed to traffic, rendering the Inland Line, two seperate branch lines. Wongan Hills being on the sth section from Goomailling to Mclevie.

Wongan Hills was once an important stop along the line, as it is the main service centre for the neighbouring farming lands and towns. Fuel was railed here, along with general goods. Today Wongan Hills only
sees the seasonal Grain train workings.

Here's one of Wongan Hills Station Yard I dug up from my collection, it was photographed on the 16th of February 2003.
I was driving back from Geraldton to Perth, via the inland Line, and had this storm catching up behind me, it overtook
me at Konongorring, where I took shelter behind the district hall. Anyways notice the yard was still reasonably intact
at this point, so it looks like the last bit of rationalisation of the yard took place between 2003 and 2004.
